Editing, revising, revisiting...

Progress has been slower of late - travels abroad have taken the place of writing, or rather, have filled my head with new ideas!

The first thing I have done on my return home is to edit the Prologue to 'An Artist's Muse': the first words any prospective publisher might see, if they decide to give my manuscript a try. Acting on advice from various sources (including my best critics at home!), I have made the prologue more in-keeping with the tone of the rest of the book. It also hints a lot more heavily at the supernatural element of the story, which is only revealed in great detail towards the end of the novel.

In my quest to become a published author, I have sent an extract of the book to a Crime Writing competition, centred as it is around an unsolved murder case. Here's hoping that the updated prologue stands me in good stead.

I find that as the years pass (almost 10 now!), it is easier to look on my work with a more critical eye, and passages of writing that I would never have dreamed of removing are now on the cutting room floor. The work was part of my leaving my teenage years behind and starting on my career path as an independent adult, and as such has grown up with me! It is a project which is very close to my heart, but I know that other pieces of writing will take over from it soon, especially if my unending search for a publisher evades me...

For now, I'll keep on scrawling!
