Carried Away.

From my limited experience, it seems that the life of a writer can be most fruitful when it seems they are doing nothing at all. I feel that I've been neglecting my authorly duties of late - no additions to the blog, no updates to the website, no major achievements with my completed manuscript (besides a recent, positive email from a publisher who enjoyed the MS, but felt it didn't fit their current list of titles). And yet, I've been living life. I've experienced places and events that will be in my memory for a lifetime, and sharing them with truly fantastic people.
Quite suddenly, without even realising it was happening, my creative juices have begun to flow in earnest. 'An Artist's Muse' is still waiting in the 'To Do' piles of various submissions. In the meantime, I have three - three! - new manuscripts underway. The most recent being an idea that fell, fully-formed, into my brain, upon hearing a song. Said song is currently being played on repeat endlessly, while I get my thoughts in order. That's my trick. The way I get my brain into the frame of mind of a particular scene, character or event. The song captures a mood, and my brain attempts to put that mood into words. Some of my best writing comes from being totally immersed in a single idea, framed by a single song.
Which leads me to wonder: what might other writers credit their best efforts to? Music? A particular place? A certain time of day? Or something else?
The key then, is trying to seize that golden quality for long enough. Not always an easy task!
Feeling hopeful - feeling more productive! D.E.W
